The new rail has been moved prior to work starting, also the  80 new sleepers have been creosoted  ready for the relaying, the next task is to do the levels and we hope to start the relaying at the beginning of Feb weather permitting.

Last Weekend we renewed the crushed rail length on the woodland railway, good job there was 6 of us as we had to take the length up and take it back to the shed because the rail was welded to the sleepers!!

During the heavy snow we suffered some damage to the shed roof, which has now been made water proof again

March / April 2010

After the heavy snow we had, the sheds and mess room  suffered badly from numerous leaks, these were all repaired in record time, and at the same time a spring clean of the outer mess room was carried out.

In the last week of April the mess room roof and inner ceiling was replaced, this included rebuilding the Brick stove.

 May 2010

The first big event of the railway calendar the Model Railway show was a great sucess, even the weather was kind to us Elouise was running with 3 coaches and the brake van, one of these was the newly finished Penrhyn coach ( see restoration page on the rolling stock page), this proved to be as popular as ever probably due to the seating arrangement.

There were also many layouts to be seen and plenty of trade stalls.

Pamela was also pulled out of the shed and attracted a lot of interest

DH Brake Van

this brake van was built in 1942, was from the two foot six inch gauge railway system at Dean Hill, near Salisbury, (later renamed Defence Munitions Dean Hill). Hence the DH.

It was used to transport ammunition in the depot to underground bunkers.  marked up with RNAD  (Royal Naval Armament Depot.)

Re-gauged to two foot gauge for use on the OKLR.

Has just undergone an overhaul and new paint scheme

A trench was dug across the museum site to allow the installation of a new mains electric cable.

Hunslet on Snow clearing duties

Heavy snow and ice bring travel chaos across UK

(BBC Headline)

But not on the OKLR, we managed to Run a full Santa Special Service.

With the great help of the volunteers who battled the conditions,we started clearing the Yard and defrosting the points, this was a bit of a losing battle as soon as we had cleared one set and moved to another the first set were covered again!

A lot of time was also spent trying to defrost the water tower!

With the Watercress Line & The Bluebell Railway unable to operate Due to Staff and weather issues, we were the only Steam Railway Operating in the South East!
